The Crucible
for solo cello
The Crucible is the second collaboration between Holdsworth and cellist Krista Low. It continues the theme of struggle in terms of both program and the physicality of the piece. It also refers to Arthur Miller's play of the same title, a fictionalized account of the Salem witch trials. The Crucible juxtaposes pleading lyrical arabesques against violent and demanding acrimonies.
